TalkLove Africa Foundation embarks on Child Abuse Sensitization
As part of our annual projects aimed at sensitizing school aged children on body safety, Talklove Africa Foundation on the 13th of March 2023 embarked on a one-day sensitization using the “My Body is My Body Program. A musical program that teaches children body safety in the most fun loving way.
The sensitization was aimed at reducing child abuse in society. To achieve our goal we sensitized 63 children between the ages of 3 - 10 at PearlMac Academy, at Rumunduru town in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The days activities involved teaching children about the various parts of their bodies, impacting the children with the knowledge of the sensitive (private) part of their bodies so that they wouldn’t be vulnerable to abuses, teaching them the no secret policy and letting them know their bodies are special and no one has the right to hurt them. They were assigned to participate in a choreography and drawing competition, a creative way to make them understand the message. They were also taught songs that resonates with them understanding the value of their body and how to protect it from abuses.
More than 90% of the students were confirmed to be identified using participatory observation as the research methodology. The headteacher reported increased awareness about the subject matter amongst the children of which she was more than excited to receive the TalkLove Team saying such an exercise will indeed promote body safety in schools such as theirs.
