Talklove Africa Brings the SDGs to St. Luke’s Nursery & Primary School, Rumuoche Community.

Monday, 19th May 2025, marked another impactful milestone for Talklove Africa as we extended our SDGs in Schools Capacity Building Program to St. Luke’s Nursery and Primary School in Rumuoche Community, Emohua LGA, Rivers State. Despite being outside our usual operational zone, the warmth and excitement from the pupils and staff reaffirmed why initiatives like this are essential. The Headmistress, Mrs. Rachael Oluwafunke Olopade, expressed profound joy at our presence, having initially doubted whether we would honor the invitation due to the distance.

A Day of Learning, Culture, and Sustainable Development.

The event was nothing short of vibrant and enlightening. The pupils, numbering over 67, welcomed us with melodious songs and captivating drama performances, beautifully dressed in traditional Ikwerre attire, showcasing their rich cultural heritage. Their presentations—delivered in both English and the Ikwerre dialect—highlighted their creativity and eagerness to engage with global issues in a local context.

Teaching the SDGs: Why It Matters for Young Minds

At Talklove Africa, we believe that awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) should start early. During the session, we:

Explained the 17 SDGs in child-friendly terms, emphasizing their relevance to everyday life.

Encouraged interactive discussions where pupils asked insightful questions about poverty, quality education, clean water, and climate action.

Used visual aids and storytelling to make the concepts relatable, ensuring the children understood how they could contribute—even at their age.

The pupils’ curiosity and enthusiasm were inspiring. Many wanted to know how they could help end hunger (SDG 2), keep their environment clean (SDG 13 & 15), and ensure everyone gets a good education (SDG 4).

A Memorable Photo Moment with the SDGs Placards

No impactful event is complete without documentation! We took group photographs with the pupils holding SDGs placards, symbolizing their commitment to a sustainable future. These images serve as a reminder that change begins with awareness.

Gratitude from the School Leadership

Mrs. Rachael Oluwafunke Olopade, the Headmistress, expressed deep appreciation for the program, stating:

We are truly grateful to Talklove Africa for bringing this initiative to our school. Many organizations overlook rural communities, but you came, and the children have learned so much. This is a program that should reach every school in Nigeria.

Why the SDGs in Schools Program Matters

At Talklove Africa, our SDGs in Schools Initiative is designed to:

✅ Raise awareness about global goals at the grassroots level.

✅ Inspire young changemakers who will drive sustainable development in their communities.

✅ Bridge the gap between urban and rural educational opportunities.

This visit to St. Luke’s Nursery and Primary School was a testament to the power of inclusive education. If we are to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we must start with the children—the leaders of tomorrow.
